With his Dedicate Lamp, industrial designer Thomas Bentzen sought to update the archetypal architect's lamp with some UX improvements. "It's all about achieving a truly smooth movement," he says. "When you grab it and pull it towards you, it shouldn't tilt; it should feel sturdy and stay in its position."
Additionally, "you should also have a pleasant experience when you grip it." The cooling fins on the head thus do double duty, providing a secure grip.
Copenhagen-based Bentzen designed the lamp in multiple sizes and with multiple mounting options (base, table clamp, table pin, wall mount). It's made of powder-coated aluminum and the LEDs are dimmable.
A new design, it's scheduled to go into production by furniture manufacturer Muuto.

The lamp is quite nice but one of the great things about LED lights is that they don’t require cooling. Still, the retro fins do look like they’d be pleasant to hold!
An LED of this wattage often do require cooling, especially if coated in a thermally insulating way like powdercoat. Have a glance at any LED fitting and there's almost always a heatsink of some form
Not an update of functionality. The "classic" Luxo Lamp was based on parallelogram arms that kept the head in the same relative position when moved. It was more than just arms counter-balanced by springs.
