Braun has released a new limited-edition wristwatch, the BN0279. Created in collaboration with watch brand Hodinkee, it features a 40mm stainless steel case and a rubber strap. (Frankly, with an asking price of $950 I'd have expected leather.)
They've also made a version with a sub-seconds dial:
"We wanted to combine the signature elements of our two favorite watch designs by the brand, the AW10 and the AW50," writes Hodinkee, "in a manner that maintained the aesthetic purity and minimalistic ethos that is at the heart of all Braun designs while adding specialized touches to make it feel refreshed and new."
For reference's sake, here's the AW10, designed in 1989…
…and the AW50, designed in 1991.
(Note: I believe Dietrich Lubs designed the AW10, and that Lubs and Dieter Rams collaborated on the AW50; accounts differ.)
The BN0279 with the sub-seconds dial is already sold out; and with only 100 units of the standard BN0279 having been made, stock should disappear shortly.
You can still buy an AW10 and AW50 today; though they were discontinued in 2009, they were re-released in 2017. The official asking price for either is $300, but if you shop around, you can find them marked down to nearly half of that.
