This is quite the self-description for a new company: "Vaarnii is a furniture company that makes brutal and sophisticated objects," they write, "from a single natural raw material; Finnish pine, by local craftspeople and factories in Finland."
"Our first collection is made entirely from Scots Pine (Pinus Sylvestris), the most populous tree in Finland. For generations pine has been underexplored as a furniture-making material, frequently miss-represented as lesser quality. Our collection puts the spotlight back on this bold characterful wood and its innate qualities."
Vaarnii tapped British artist/designer Faye Toogood to design a chair for their inaugural outdoor line. Toogood took inspiration from both the Adirondack chair and her studio's mock-up materials. "We always begin with model and maquette making," Toogood says. "And as the model making materials came out in our studio; clay, paper, wire, there was also a box of lollipop sticks. We started playing around and creating shapes. That provided us with a geometry that became very interesting."
The Peace Outdoor Lounge Chair is in production and runs €1,700 (USD $1,847). The companion footstool runs €400 (USD $434).

I would not say this chair looks "brutal" or "sophisticated" but rather soft and DIY.....
How much? For a pine adirondack chair? Must weigh 100lbs. I like it but also looks very DIY.
Pine is super light - compared to cedar or other hard woods - and would not be nearly as durable over time with rain and snow.
I was wrong!
Finnish pine is semi-dense in as lighter than Birch, which is the most common species used Finnish furniture, but denser than Spruce for instance. Naturally it doesn't stand to elements as well as Cedar but the Pine used on this chair has been heat treated (thus the brown colour) making it comparable to pressure treated lumber rot resistance-wise.With that said, untreated old growth Pine [which is increasingly rare] can be very dense, and if it's resin-rich than it'll not go anywhere within your lifetime.
