A good example of making something more useful by removing material: This beautiful Freely door handle is by Milan-based industrial designer Giulio Iacchetti.
"Freely is a handle but also the idea of a new gesture. Freely frees us from the burden of having clumsy hands and not knowing how to open a door, so it is activated by offering a suitable support for the elbow. A spontaneous gesture that becomes normal and comfortable thanks to the subtraction of matter, the emptying of the normally 'full' part of classic handles."
It comes in three finishes.
Freely is in production by Italian manufacturer Dnd.

It's Italian designer, so style is in this case even important ass material use and costs.
"more with less" doesn't seem accurate here. That looks like two door handles. There seems to be no need for the portion closest to the door. It would work the same with half the material.
