Inventor Lanny Smoot, a Disney Research Fellow and Imagineer, has invented something incredible: The HoloTile floor, an omnidirectional walking surface that could be one of the breakthroughs for truly immersive VR experiences.
It looks like it uses a system of tilting, rotating discs.
Because the discs operate independently, two people can stand on the same array and "walk" in different directions.

Disney has announced that Smoot is being inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. With over 100 patents to his name, he's the first Disney Imagineer to be inducted, and only the second Disney employee after Walt himself.

How do you get off it?
If anybody isn't sure how this works, the angular orientation of the spinning discs determines the direction of travel for an object on top of them. Definitely something you wouldn't want to be walking on with socks or bare feet.
How does it work? That's incredible.
Disney Magic Juan. lol. Incredible tech!
