One of the biggest influence on me of all things mechanical was my next door neighbor who was a shipfitter in a nearby shipyard. He would be involved with lift aircraft carrier superstructures. He taught me the value of simplifying tasks. Doing big things with very little. He helped me lift a corner of the house with nothing but some scrap wood, a sledgehammer & makeshift wedges.
