Fire engines are built with a lot of storage space, which individual departments fit out to their needs.
To maximize space efficiency and ease-of-access, Performance Advantage Company, an upstate-New-York-based manufacturer of tool mounting solutions, offers slide-out and swing-out tool boards. These consist of a series of "PAC-TRAC" aluminum extrusions, into which the company's extensive line of tool brackets can be slid and securely mounted. The boards can be deployed on slides or hinges.
They offer both Vertical and Horizontal Slide-Out Toolboards. You'd choose an orientation depending on what types of objects are being stored (see video below).
The toolboards lock in place, both in the stowed and deployed positions.
For tricky spaces like the wide but shallow compartment over the wheel wells, their Swing-Out Toolboard makes more sense. These can be layered two deep with alternating hinge sides, and each panel offers storage on both sides.
