There's really no way to look cool on a tandem bicycle. But perhaps a third wheel will distract onlookers more than two people cycling in a fighter-jet configuration.
The Defender 250, by German manufacturer Dolas Bike, boasts three wheels in-line and a gigantic 48V battery powering hub motors in all three wheels.
"Equipped with three powerful 250-watt motors and an innovative, patented moving frame, the Defender 250 is perfect for you whether you want to ride around town, cruise down bumpy country roads or go on off-road adventures. Thanks to the seamless handling of road obstacles and off-road types, every mile is pure driving pleasure!"
The design of the suspension is pretty novel; you can see how the two rear wheels articulate in the video below.

The bike is pretty heavy, tipping the scales at 78 kg (172 pounds). And at €6,520 (USD $7,119), not counting any of the optional baskets, you might wonder: "Should we just get two separate e-bikes?"

So what problem does this $7k contraption solve that a simpler design doesn't? This is just a tandem cargo with extra moving parts(fail points).
