This Sapele Serenade chair is by Jared Teiger, an Industrial Design student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The simple brief: "Design and build an ergonomically considered chair that comfortably fits a range of body types."
Teiger's chair is knockout-handsome, and I was equally impressed with his thorough documentation of his design process:
The finished product is stunning.
Tieger's design won a well-deserved 2023 SIT Furniture Design Award from Switzerland's 3C Awards design organization.

The creative flow itself was a real storytelling pleasure. Hand sketches, CAD proofs of concept, weaving studies and the hand fabrication. Tells the world what enormous skills industrial designers employ and our dedication to the outcome of the evolving vision. Plus it shows the marriage of old and new processes. BTW the chair is superb. The low height and angles are reminiscent of the Eames LCW so I’m sure it is most comfortable for long periods. Well done!
My only concern is that the horizontal pieces behind the back are straight. That seems like it might get uncomfortable after a while. Otherwise, it looks like a really great piece!
Having seen and sat on this chair at an event at Georgia Tech, I have to say that it is even more impressive in person - which is saying a lot. I believe he said it was his first time building a piece of furniture, too!
