This pleasingly-earthy-looking Kyoto Long sconce light is by Atelier de Troupe, an L.A.-based lighting and furniture brand. I absolutely love the minimal lines, the proportions, the finish and the Modernism-meets-Japan style.
The unit is cast in aluminum, in two halves. "The casting is finished to a smooth texture and is available in matte black, bronze or satin aluminum," writes AdT. "Each casting is manufactured in small batches meaning slight variations will occur from piece to piece. Production marks may include slight variable surface pitting."
They also offer a Kyoto Wide version, but to me the proportions are all wrong. Just a few inches and it goes from elegant to resembling something that dries your hands:
The Kyoto Long is 5" wide, 3" deep and 12" tall, while the Wide is 7" wide, 3" deep and 10" tall. Both are actually manufactured in Los Angeles, which explains the eye-watering price: They're $900 a pop.
