Industrial Design Student Work: The Linear Clock

"It has always confused me that clocks go round in a circle," writes Tom Clark, a design student at London's Kingston School of Art. "Time to me is linear, a one way trip, a thought that is both exciting and terrifying, and our clocks should show that."

Thus Clark's design for the Linear Clock:

"Linear is a mechanical clock that rises and falls, each drop marking an hour or a day."

"A new way to watch the clock. A fully functional motorised clock that plays on our expectations of analogue and digital."

Very nice! I'd like to offer a horizontal version, too. This is interesting to me because it has no minute hand. No good as an egg timer, but as a beautiful piece of wall art, it pretty much rocks! www.linearclockworks.com.

Wow, he really reinvented the wheel here. /s
So basically, there's a brief period at the end of every day, when the clock can't display the time at all, in addition to being inaccurate at the top of every hour. Oh if only there was some way to resolve that...
This is as creative as a 4yr old wearing shoes on their hands and gloves on their feet.
