Because e-bikes are heavy, German startup Pender has invented the ebikelifter.
It attaches to your car's roof rack, and features a telescoping arm to do the hoisting and lowering. First you ratchet-strap this tube between your seatpost and handlebar stem…
…and then it's e-bikes away:
It will lift bikes weighing up to 66 lbs (30kg). With one mounted on each side of your car, you can carry two bikes.
And yes, the lift arm can be removed, so when you're bikeless, you're not driving around with it sticking up in the air.
Pender is taking pre-orders at a price of €748 (USD $825).

This is great engineering, but anyone who can afford it can also afford a more efficient rear rack installation. It's a really clever improvement of a flawed idea.
After 25 years of biking with difficult roof racks I finally discovered the user-friendly rear hitch rack.
