This wonderful SYT chair was designed and built by Theda Vollert, as an Industrial Design student at Germany's BURG (a/k/a the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle). Vollert fabricated the chair using steel tube, Danish cord and recycled leather.

I like the fact that unless it was staged, a student is actually taking part in the fabrication of the unit. Having spent time in a factory building frame pieces for passenger cars gave me a clear view of the realities of good, practical design, and the limitations of the various work flows for production (CNC: slowest, most inefficient; welding: the rig for piece placement is the most important factor; stamping: figure out how to do this for as many parts as possible; additive printing: LOL no).
