Tiny, Unauthorized Versions of Most Expensive Sculpture Ever Sold by a Living Artist
At $29, Jeff Koons is unlikely to notice
If you like expensive fine art, are on a budget, and are morally flexible, this might be for you.
Jeff Koons' Balloon Dog series, begun in 1993, commands top-dollar. His ten-foot-tall Balloon Dog (Orange), auctioned by Christie's, fetched $58.4 million a decade ago. It was the most expensive sculpture ever sold by a living artist.
If you scale down to this 16-inch tall Balloon Dog (Blue), well, it still costs a considerable $48,000.
However, if you're okay with unnamed, unauthorized replicas, glassworker Luke Adams is selling these diminutive Balloon Dog Figurines for just $29.
They're less than 2" x 2", and can tidily live on your desktop as a daily reminder of how you'll never be able to afford the real thing.
