As we saw in the entry on douyang, in Asian timber framed structures it was common to use lots of overlapping pieces to create great strength for roof structures through redundancy.
Studio Shinyoo, a furniture design firm based in both Korea and Sweden, reasoned that a tabletop is essentially a scaled-down roof, and applied the idea of using multiple overlapping elements—in this case, thin strips of steel—to provide the structure for a tabletop. This yielded their series of Lin Tables.
