Designing flash drives: What does it take to make one stand out?

Physically speaking, most flash drives are little more than rectangles, so for one to stand out enough to win an iF Product Design Award you figure it's really gotta be something special.

A-DATA Technology's T806 won such an award, and here's the description:

Based on the concept of kissing, A-DATA T806 Kissing Octopus Couple flash Drive is designed with the charming heart shaped eyes and lovely pouting mouth, showing great passion for romance. The T806 comes in two colors--light pink and sky blue. These two colors represent a lovable couple--making it a great gift on Valentine's day. Each color of the octopus equipped with a different magnetic pole. When you put these lovable octopuses together, they will stick to each other and form a hot kiss! You can also use it as a magnetic sticker! To prevent cap-losing problem, the USB Drive can be loaded reversely into the octopus. Let these lovely couple awake the childhood memory deep inside you.

Um...wow. Kissing octopi with heart-shaped eyes gets a trophy? Really? We wonder if the IFD council is willing to stake their rep on this one....

Personally a flash drive with a cap is a deal breaker for me. I loose the cap too often. There are some in the grid that do not use a cap but the coolest ones still do.
