Finnish industrial designer Ville Kokkonen designed this simple but elegant stool for Iwatemo, a design brand that utilizes traditional craftspeople from Iwate Prefecture, Japan.
"Flatpack wooden stool. When disassembled, it occupies less than half the space of its footprint. Compact, no screws nor glue – wooden joinery. Produced by Junboku Furniture Inc. Japanese chestnut and ash."
The stool is 45cm (17.7") wide and tall, and 30cm (11.8") deep. It retails for ¥36,000 (USD $274).

I don't see how this is an improvement on anything existing. The legs screw into the base like any stool. The crisscross parts seems excessive considering the amount of work that went into cutting them at angles.
