I wonder if an aesthetically redesigned version of this would make sense in a domestic setting. Bavaria-based Auer Packaging makes these large, wheeled collapsible storage boxes for industrial facilities:
The HDPE containers, which measure 80 x 60 x 93cm (31.4" x 23.6" x 36.6") can swallow 250 liters (66 gallons, or nearly nine cubic feet). They can have portions of their sidewalls folded outwards, to provide easier access to the contents...
...and can also break down to less than half their size for easier storage:
They can also be had in a gigantic 120 x 100 x 114cm (47.2" x 39.4" x 44.9") size that can handle 900 liters (238 gallons).
I'm not sure why I find myself drawn to these things. Probably because I know some group of industrial designers busted their ass to make this thing work, toiling in complete obscurity. If you're reading this, I appreciate the work that went into this.
