Past Core77 Design Awards Jury Captains have included industry leaders such as Airbnb Partner Joe Gebbia, FOOD New York Founding Director Dong-Ping Wong, Champions of Design Co-founder & Hillary for America 2016 Director of Design Jennifer Kinon, dreams • design + life Founder Kevin Bethune, Girls Garage Founder Emily Pilloton, and many more.
Let's take a look at few of the projects that took home awards in 2022 to serve as inspiration for your entry this year:
Starbucks' Clover Vertica™ brewing technology, which took home the Professional Winner award in the 2022 Commercial Equipment category, is a smart solution for reducing industry waste. This on-demand brewer created for Starbucks locations helps move brewers from producing coffee in batches to brew on demand, which will reduce the company's brewed coffee waste by 70%. The fine metal mesh filter within the machine also eliminates the need for paper filters, which across our 33,000 stores means eliminating 200M paper filters per year.
With homes getting more crowded since the start of the pandemic, there's a large need for ways to find privacy when working from home. NORA—a wearable product designed by Niels van Gils, Yuan Hong and Heinrich Zaunschirm that won 2022 Student Home & Living Award—helps individuals create their own "personal bubble" with active noise cancellation, a foldable hoodie to create a visual sense of privacy, and integrated heated pads for added comfort.
Munjoi's All-Dai Shoe was the 2022 Professional Winner in the Personal Accessory category responds to the overproduction of footwear by creating a 4-in-1 solution for your closet. The product does an excellent job of combining a mule, open-toe sneaker, a sandal, and conventional sneaker into one sleek form without making it feel gimmicky. The sneakers are also a more sustainable footwear option as they are made from cotton and hemp, as well as a plant-based EVA consisting of algae waste and sugarcane for the foam cushioning.
Erin Harpur's CDC Rebrand Project that won the 2022 Visual Communication Student Winner Award brings a modern yet timeless sensibility to the Center for Disease Control's brand identity, an approach that can potentially help with the spread of important factual information and engagement with the general population.
Mark your calendars! The awards pick back up again on Monday, January 9th, 2023. Learn more about the 2023 awards now at designawards.core77.com
