"In the daily practice of professional bartenders there are some actions that are carried out very often," says Francesco, a bartender in Milan. "Specifically, we use knives to peel and cut fruits, the pestle for cocktails, the measuring cup for dosing liquids and the shaker."
After speaking with Francesco, Milan-based product designer Andrea Barbazza wondered if he could design a bartender's multi-tool. Ultimately Barbazza decided he couldn't replace the shaker, but he did zero in on the other three tasks mentioned by Francesco:
Barbazza then designed this Squeeze, Pound and Cut tool to tackle them all:
"SQUEEZE, POUND AND CUT is a cocktail tool with a triple function. Inside the upper body there is a blade for cutting and peeling fruits. Once the upper part is closed it is possible to squeeze fruits such as lemons, limes and oranges. Furthermore, once gripped and overturned it is possible to crush the fruits for cocktails."
There's no pestle shot, but you get the idea.
Interestingly enough, Barbazza graduated from university with a degree in medical imaging and radiotherapy techniques—then finally gave in to his passion, and gained a degree in Product Design from the Politecnico di Milano.
