It's a lot more DIY than you'd think

When hydraulic fittings fail, the results can be catastrophic, as we saw here. Hydraulic hoses themselves are also vulnerable, which is why machines like this tree-processing behemoth will have their hoses wrapped in protective spirals made by companies like Caplugs:

But how do they get the spiral wrapped around the hose? You probably picture some elaborate and gigantic manufacturing machine. Instead, it's a simple rig that amounts to two tubes and a hand drill, demonstrated here by protective sleeve manufacturer Havel:
