The confluence of several technologies—smartphone cameras, app development and 3D printing—means you can now order a Hasbro action figure with your face on it. The toy giant has teamed up with Formlabs on their Hasbro Selfie Series, whereby customers download the Hasbro Pulse app, "scan" their face with their smartphone's camera, and upload it to Hasbro's Formlabs-equipped print factory.
A fairly detailed rendition of your entire head is printed, and Hasbro then pops this onto the Star Wars, Marvel, GI Joe, Power Rangers or Ghostbusters character of your choice and ships it to you.
"Formlabs worked with Hasbro to develop a custom resin which enabled a diverse range of colors for skin and hair tones," the company writes. "Based on our Tough 1500 Resin, the new material produces prints that simulate polypropylene (PP) parts in terms of stiffness and strength."
