More outside-of-the-box furniture design: The Tarkett, by Paris-based design collective 5-5. At first glance it looks like a sofa made using a roll of carpet:
But yes, it actually unfurls.
"It was because we practice many activities directly on the floor that we felt the need to create a floor covering that gives the floor an additional dimension," the designers write. "Exercising, playing with your children, settling in with your computer or making a phone call while leaning up against your couch are some of the spontaneous actions that could use some support."
This is the kind of object where, if I was asked to invest in its manufacture, I'd politely decline—but if it was an ID student project and I was the professor, I'd give it an A.

I'd rather just have a comfortable couch and useful rug instead of something that does neither very well.
what on earth!
How big is it? It looks tiny next to the people in the last picture. Fun idea but looks uncomfortable as a sofa.
Now make it inflatable.
Is it comfortable as a couch?
looks pretty uncomfortable in either use case. Looks like sitting on a rolled up gym mat.
