I couldn't tell what this object does just by looking at it:
It's a Staple-less Stapler, made by Japanese manufacturer Harinacs, and it can fasten up to 10 sheets of paper.
I guessed it worked by crimping, but I was wrong. Instead, when you pull the trigger two things happen. The first is that a die cuts these shapes through the paper:
Then a little hinged lever inside does this:
Users can shred documents without needing a heavy-duty shredder, and of course you never need to buy staples.
The original commercial is entertaining, being narrated by a caffeinated man shouting the product's virtues at you in Japanese…

Muji have had a similar product for some years, which I think is a bit kinder on the eyes
It is ugly and looks like it would be awkward to use; however, I love the concept.
I think it looks pretty cool. It's not a huge item.
