This person rigged up this elegant little lighter, that can be extinguished with one hand:

If the application's not obvious, "This is for lighting pipes/smoking things and such," the inventor writes. "In many people's opinion (myself included), it tastes smoother this way than using butane directly."

Critics on the original thread still did not seem to grasp the utility of the device, leading another commenter to explain:

"It's not to light a pipe once, it's to hold into the pipe while inhaling for weed. The candles are not involved at all, that was just for demonstration. You light the hemp with a lighter and hold the hemp to your bowl while inhaling rather than spraying butane into your lungs."

The original post doesn't call it a "lighter" so you should probably change the title of this one too. It's a hemp extinguisher.... not a lighter... big difference.

So it's not a lighter at all... it doesn't not create fire. This is basically a wax-less candle...... You still need to start the fire somehow with an actual lighter or source of fire.
Super misleading title.....
