New from Montana is the Marée chair, designed by Jens Martin Skibsted. Through material choices, a minimalist aesthetic, and clever design elements, both the designer and manufacturer have gone to great lengths to minimize the overall environmental impact from the product.
The seat top is made from 100% recycled polypropylene, and features a unique cut out in the back that reduces the material usage. The name Marée means "tide" in French, and the ridges in the back of the seat top provide structural support and further reduce material while also referring to the ripples left in the sand on a beach from the shifting tides. These combined efforts earned the chair an EU Ecolabel certification.
The upholstered version, shown above, is made with a polyurethane top and will also comply with the EU Ecolabel certification. The chair comes in eight color choices, with a chrome or powder coated base, and will be available from Montana retailers beginning in September 2022.
