Designers for companies like Apple and Festool like to keep you attached to their sprawling product systems. For power tool manufacturers, it's pretty easy; get the customer invested in your cordless batteries, and you've got 'em. Designing tool-hauling systems that latch together are another popular technique.
Along these lines, DeWalt has designed a system-minded component that I'm surprised isn't more common: A storage clipboard that attaches to their TStak storage totes.
