Custom kitchens are big business, and likely a point of pride for homeowners who can afford them. For those who can't, Vienna-based industrial designer Kerstin Pfleger has designed the Kit Kitchen system.
Pfleger's concept is that complete kitchens can be sourced for much cheaper with used, mismatched components. All that's needed is a way to fit them cleanly together.
The Kit Kitchen is composed of stainless steel components, custom-cut to match the differing sizes of mismatched components. Shipped flatpack, it is user-assembled. (The concept reminds me a bit of the money-saving custom Quonset hut system we looked at here.)
