iCables : The Holedar Earphones by Yoonsang Kim

Can't wait for these to go into production, as I'm really sick of messing around iCables... The Holedar Earphones by Yoonsang Kim is a concept design that should garner lots of attention not just in terms of innovation, minimalism and function but also for the drop dead killer looks.

The unique shape serves several purposes. It fits snugly in your ear, easily loops together around your neck when not in use, and prevents bacterial growth which is 700 times more concentrated in regular ear buds. More after the jump!

Designed for Philips, Kim's earphones solve not only functional issues but also marketing goals as the form is the shape of the letter 'P'. This makes the earphones synonymous with the brand even if they don't have them engraved with Philips logo. Perhaps updating their logo is in order?

Maybe design the product with a more flexible material that can be molded and shaped into the varieties of the consumers ear. Also, maybe good for use within a studio when you want to hear music at a low volume "so it does not bother others" but still be able to hold a conversation with your neighbor. Great sleek design and will grab the attention of the consumers. The consumer with be able to use the product as a piece of jewelry and a device to listen to their music.

"It fits snugly in your ear" ...yes, as long as your ear is the same size as the model on the picture = 99% chance it would fall out of mine. And I agree with the sound quality / leak issues. That'll be a hard nut to crack. My guess is it won't come into production in it's current form.

I am worried about how much audio would leak out and annoy other people. Also I'm worried about how much background noise that would be heard by the user. There is a reason why most headphones don't have a bloody great hole in the middle of them.

I don't know about it not sounding good, Philips tends to have highly ergonomic & functional products, I've never been disappointed by their ear bud style headphones, unlike other brands, they actually stay in my ear!

Philips did update the logo and those earphones still feature the old one :p

I also don't want my headphone cable sticking half way out into my face and meeting at my chin (unlike that first picture!)...current models drop the wire straight down from your ear which seems an impossible task with that design.

But it looks pretty and makes a 'P' shape, so.......

If you have ever seen the inside of earbuds, you would know that this would be impossible to make.
