Sneakers having grown into the commodity that they are, Nike now has a Refurbished program, like Apple's, for reselling used product.
Sneakers that are in good enough condition to be resold are graded, cleaned up, sanitized, and sold at a discount. Sneakers that have given up the ghost are sent into Nike's Grind initiative, whereby they're ground up and turned into surfaces for basketball courts, walkways, courts, tracks, playgrounds and even bike-share stations.
So far the Refurbished program appears to be drop-off only, and there's a list of participating Nike outlets here.
