Here's the Quickdraw Pro, a tape measure with a built-in mark-maker:

As my eyes age, the main thing I prize in a tape measure is legibility of the tick marks. Beyond that I've begrudgingly accepted that modern tape measures are disposable, with the tapes prone to damage, or me just losing them.
What I've never had a problem with is making the actual mark, so I don't see the benefit of the Quickdraw (plus I don't want to maintain extra graphite rollers). But others might; so what say you, gimmick or useful?

Look up "Talmeter". You have the same function except you scribe the mark. No leds, no extra moving parts, nothing that is prone to failure. Scribe loosely so you barely see the mark, or scribe hard and you can break drywall along the scribe mark.
It also has a hole at 100mm to poke a scriber trough, then you can scribe circles.
It can be used to measure the circumference of pipes too
A true innovation would be to find a way to imbed spirit levels both parallel and perpendicular to the tape on the tape itself. Is this a thing?
I like this. I would like it to be a bolder marking led like a 2mm pencil led w/ different colors available.
