At Spazio Rossana Orlandi, the grand dame of Italian design had an unusual mix of corporate projects from the likes of Wolf Gordon, Sunbrella and Marimekko and smaller scale works of independent studios and designers crowded into every nook and cranny of the grounds. For the first time, the upstairs retail space—normally a shopper's paradies for design lovers—was turned into exhibition space where unmarked projects sat side-by-side with design items for sale.
Craft was still the focus of this year's exhibition and there were a handful of unique objects that were worth seeing including BCXSY's collaboration with bespoke wallpaper manufacturers Calico, Germans Ermics' wonderful mirrors, Alissa + Nienke's 3D wallpaper and Sander Wassink's programmed ceramics collaboration with Olivier van Herpt. Overall, the presentations at this year's Spazio Rossana Orlandi lacked the avant garde vision one has come to expect from Milan's most beloved design space.
