Design for the Environment Newsletter

North American companies are lagging behind their overseas counterparts in the design of environmentally friendly products. Most European countries, and Germany in particular, are leading developments in the field, with Japan catching up fast. The strategic advantage of so-called "Green Designs" have become clearer with the rise of environmental trade barriers in the global marketplace.

Product designers in North America have been without a source for practical information on the environment, until now. A quarterly newsletter on design for the environment entitled GREEN DESIGN is now being published by the Sustainable Development Association (SDA), a non-profit organization. The SDA was founded with the goal of transforming business and industrial practices into environmentally sustainable activities.

The GREEN DESIGN newsletter is a forum for ideas and issues related to achieving sustainable development through product design. "By educating our readers about the environmental impact of their design decisions, we will ensure that they, and their employers, are on the leading edge of green design. If you are involved in the design and manufacture of products, and you are not studying design for the environment, then very shortly you will be at a competitive disadvantage" said SDA President Jim Banks.

The newsletter is available by subscription or through membership in the Sustainable Development Association.
