What's better in winter than the cozy and warm feeling of a fire pit? A burning fire pit has this supernatural ability to become a social interaction magnet. It triggers something deep down in our roots that makes us instantly drop our phones, gather around it, stare into the flames and share stories.
The big problem is that fireplaces, stoves and fire pits, behind their warm and cozy appearance are proven unhealthy, environmentally unfriendly and potentially dangerous. So, at Springtime we asked ourselves, "What if we could find a sustainable alternative that would create those same beautiful atmosphere without the bad news?"
Our answer, Stov.
Stov. is a beautiful 360 degrees, 500 watts far-infrared, electrical fire pit that is built to provide the household with a "hotspot"—a focal point in the house for the family to gather around. Switch it on and instantly enjoy the comfort of radiating heat.
Far-infrared radiation is equivalent to the radiation emitted by the sun, your fireplace or even your own body. 100% Natural. Far-infrared radiation transfers energy purely in the form of heat, so there is also virtually no loss, unlike any other form of heating.
Ever felt cold in your centrally heated house? That is because central heating heats the air and not the objects. So your sofa, your walls, your body, …are not heated. Far-infrared will directly heat every object that is in the perimeter and will give you this instant comfort that you expected from your central heating.
We see the use case of lowering the overall temperature of your house by 1-2 degrees (thus saving energy) and gathering around the Stov for comfort. Stov uses about half the electricity of a traditional electrical heater. The heating element itself is made out of recycled PET, and in terms of safety, a Stov doesn't get warmer than a classic radiator.

John has made some really good points. I also thought that the stool would invite someone to sit on it. Not only would they burn themselves if this was on, but depending on how durable Stov was built, could end up being damaged.
Good points. They said it doesnt get hotter then a radiator, so its hard to get scalded or burnt. In fact 500w is pretty low considering a typical plug in radiator is up to 1500w here in usa/canada.
Like the idea but it lacks the visual appeal that a real fire pit offers... changing light and the movement of the flames themselves. Perhaps a 2.0 product could simulate something like that while also offering the warmth offered in this current version.
So... It's a foot stool that burns your feet.
Yes! Just what I thought xD
"The heating element itself is made out of recycled PET" — That can't be right... I assume they meant the casing?
I like the concept, though.
Where can I buy one? ;-) Love the idea.
