Memobilia links crafted unfinished classical furniture and digital fabricated elements. Due to financial crisis, many companies of the Italian furniture district had to close; furniture of this collection were all lying in a defaulted family workshop, on the master carver working table, abandoned together with their artisans' knowhow. We believe there's nothing lost; designers should find the gap between old craft and new technologies as an opportunity for continuity. Suggesting a new relation among industry and craftsmanship, caravan designed five pieces that play with machining, materials and crafts.
emanuela corti, ivan parati, davide scarpa, andrea ballabio, filippo corrado
The appearance of the pieces is finely balanced to avoid striking contrasts, aiming at reinterpret the classical pieces with a contemporary appeal.
The collection includes:
comero' is a chest of drawers with laser cut details applied; the same pattern is used on the brass top and on the leather that covers the drawers' front.
contarlo is a console table whose missing leg has been reproduced from a 3d scan of the existing one. After the digitalization the leg has been edited and re-generated through 3d printed wooden filament giving to the piece an hybrid aspect, a look between crafted and digital.
poltrada is an armchair whose structure was upholstered using innovative 3d knitted fabrics and laser cut leather. The results is an armchair with an incorporated blanket that gives a warm hug to user and a distinctive look to the chair itself.
speculo' is a mirror originally part of a lost dresser where the glass has been cut with the same pattern applied to the chest of drawers. It creates a strong yet fine contrast interacting with the user reflection.
sveglieuse is a dormeuse that has been reinterpreted with a volume of foam which creates a spacious cockpit. The unfinished foam structures is genuinely contrasting with the hand carved wooden base.
