The Bios Incube is addressing the problem of decreasing cemetery space, while also proving to be a contestable alternative to traditional burial methods. The intent of the Bios Incube is to offer people a sustainable alternative for remembering deceased persons or pets in a natural and contemporary way. Everyone has the right to affordable, sustainable death care. The Bios Incube has been designed for city dwellers with limited access to natural land, those seeking an alternative to traditional burials, and for people who want to meaningfully connect with their loved ones who have passed away. The Bios Incube is an app-enabled tree incubator that facilitates the growth process and provides advice for maintenance. The Bios Incube was created and developed in Barcelona by brothers Roger and Gerard Moliné. The Bios Urn and Bios Incube aim to change the way people see death, converting the "end of life" into a transformative process and promoting a return to life through nature.

When designing the Bios Urn and Bios Incube we wanted to create something that would serve as a catalyst for life and growth. The Bios Incube has a contemporary and minimal design that is adaptable to any environment or space it is placed in. The Bios Incube has a rotational molded structure that protects the Bios Urn with a two-layered body of polypropylene. The exterior construct of the Incube forges a highly supportive interior form, with a capacity to store up to 3 gallons of water. The Bios Incube can sustain up to 3 gallons of water, enough to nourish your seeds or tree for an average of twenty days. The system will also make sure that the water quality is up-to-par, and is conducive to sprout development. The Bios Incube comes with an extraordinary sensor device that is used to track your Bios Urn, detect levels of light exposure, assess electrical conductivity, and monitor moisture and temperature in the atmosphere and soil.
The sensor device attaches to the surface of the soil just over the Bios Urn, and is constantly being updated on the growth conditions and status of your seed or tree. Hidden inside the device is a custom piece of hardware equipped with sensors that are capable of tracking and mapping the needs of your tree. All the information the sensor receives is wirelessly transferred through WIFI to your The Bios Incube. The powerful WIFI chip in the Bios Incube provides you with the ability to track and maintain the growth of your seed or tree, even if you're not home to be with it, or care for it.
The Bios Incube can be paired to your Wi-Fi network using the iPhone/Android application or by using any device that has a working Internet connection. The Bios Incube combines all the collected data from its sensors and takes on an active role in watering and maintaining your tree. When the Bios Incube detects the need for hydration, it automatically mobilizes a water pump to nourish the essential parts of the seed. The Bios Incube is versatile and has been designed to fit into any space it is placed in. It's size, shape, and weight, are perfect for indoor or outdoor use. The Bios team has launched a Kickstarter campaign, and have already achieved funding.

Very beautiful implementation of this idea. It's an idea that comes up every few years (and sometimes wins awards: http://www.idsa.org/awards/idea/graduate-student-designs/poetree) probably because it's a very compelling way to remember loved ones.
Makes sense to me... Although I must admit I like the idea of mixing cremated remains with concrete to make structures for reef skeltons too.
