For Marcel Wander's latest exhibition at Friedman Benda, the designer explores a dark, sensual aesthetic by staging a distorted fairytale in the gallery space, animated by his narrative design work. The immersive environment will include several bodies of work: large abstract figural mirrors, a kinetic cabinet made of Corten steel, a rocking unicorn cast in bronze with metal chain stirrups and two monumental ceramic vases.

The School of Constructed Environments at Parsons presents Bio-Materialization, a lecture on the concept and technologies involved in the Scientific Design Approach (SDA) with Dr. Markus Holzbach, a trained ceramic engineer, architect, and material specialist and Werner W. Lorke, physicist and material scientist. Their talk focuses on cutting edge ceramic technologies and addresses biological processes to create non-organic, non-metal materials.

Closing at the Groninger Museum this week is Joris Laarman Lab, an exhibition highlighting the multidisciplinary team that works with the designer, exploring the latest technologies and experimenting with different manufacturing processes to bring his work to life. The museum has followed Laarman for years and has acquired many important works, such as the Bone Chaise, Bookshelf and the unique Digital Matter table series, which are currently on display. In addition, on the occasion of this exhibition, Laarman will create a new sculpture using the printing technique deployed to make the Amsterdam bridge.
