Stephen Lindsay and James Banos are the designers behind Toronto-based Urbanproduct, a/k/a UP. Since 2009 UP has been killing it in the furniture, product and interior design arenas, fielding clients both residential and commercial from their Bloordale studio—where they build everything in-house.
While the firm's portfolio is multimaterial, covering everything from concrete, glass, metal and wood, it's their wood-featuring designs that most caught our eye. Like their Dune 3D Wall Art Tiles:
Which can also be had live-edge:
Their attractive Nuß Door Hardware incorporates wood, even plywood, with spun aluminum:
The designers' sense of humor and national pride is on display with their Canadiana Clothing Hangers, made from actual hockey sticks for puck-obsessed fashionistas:
On the retail front, these Wi-Fi-logo-looking objects, which can be wall-mounted or used as trays, were designed as Nespresso Capsule Holders:
On the furniture side, this lovely Jewellery Cabinet incorporates handle holes in a geometrically-attractive way (almost a shame as their handles above are so pretty):
That cabinet is made from old church pews, which underscores a key element of their approach: "We strive to use locally sourced materials, environmentally responsible finishes and methodologies, whilst providing a standard of quality rarely seen in today's market," the firm writes. To that end all of their wooden products feature hand-rubbed finishes that are both nontoxic and VOC-free. "[The] strong environmental ethos towards our process…leads the team to producing particularly unique, fun and inspiring designs with as little environmental damage as possible."
We've really only scratched the surface of what UP has on offer; check out the rest of their stuff here.
