I just spotted these two unusual objects from Levenger, a Florida-based company that designs and sells their own desktop items for folks who still use actual paper. The first is this nifty, dimunitive single-sheet paper cutter:
While I smiled at how quaint the intended usage of this object is, I really do like the design. The tiny ceramic blade is just deep enough to slice through one sheet of a newspaper, for the old-school conspiracy theorist that still slices articles out of print rags, or perhaps for the physical coupon cutter. I also like the little striated disc that provides grip.
The second tickled me even more: It's a leather-bound "bookweight," for those who read physical tomes at their desk and need to hold them open for a sec, presumably while they run off to answer a telegram. Twin weights on either side are heavy enough to hold even stubborn-spined books open, and the leather on the bottom is made from soft Nubuck to avoid marring pages.
Before you scoff and say "Who uses things like this anymore?" go and read the reviews on the product pages; the people that do have a use for these objects freaking love them.

I feel some books should be physical for annotations and to give them more presence, and this tool eliminates many of the frustrations of real books. (also you could whack someone pretty good with it).
That said, I could see some other alternate uses for the device that would warrant a sales alias, uses that fancy black leather.
Though none of the reviews I saw seemed to hint at the applicability for either misappropriation of the device's intent.
So maybe it really is just really viable for holding open a big-ol book.
That said, there is mention of how the single-sheet paper-cutter is TSA friendly. So I wonder what alternate uses it might have...
Like a tactical pen or a kubotan probably not the easiest thing to get through airport security in carry-on luggage!
