Jewelry Design with Specific Materials, Part 4: Bone Art Place's Best of the Best

For our final look at New Zealand's unique jewelry vendor Bone Art Place, we wanted to shout-out some of their featured artists and their brilliant, intricate carving work.

Kerry and Amanda Thompson's two-tone stained bone pieces (above and below) knocked my socks off, and their ivory and pearl shell stuff (below) ain't too shabby either:

Rolfe Bax & Jackie Tump bring impossible intricacy to their wood pieces:

Anthony Bray-Heta works the materials of bone, silver and bronze in both Maori and Celtic styling:

What a succinct and thorough explanation. I know that for many who love good handmade jewelry the idea of commissioning a piece may come up, but many are just too overwhelmed by the idea. Although fellow designers of any trade or craft tend to understand the hours put into anything handmade, your point about pricing was a good one. Excellent combination of handcrafting and inspiration, making almost every single piece's character see alive. I like the two head -tone stained bone pieces and the four fish circular piece. Those seem to be telling us a ancient Māori s love story.

Very nice! Material reminded me of some work I saw at the London Design Festival in 2008, by Andrew Ross. One of the best material applications I have seen in a while. Check it out
