This cool ombre gradient bench by Ercol is actually one of their original designs and has been around for over 50 years, but amazingly seems to fit perfectly in the mix with pieces made in 2017. Core77 6 of 52

Designed by Jordi Ribaudí for Barcelona-based design company TORU, the CLOP chair is inspired by the manufacturing of clog shoes—from its half wood half leather materials to its unusual form. Core77 7 of 52

Stellar Works A look into Stellar Works' booth, which featured new work from designers Neri & Hu, Yabu Pushelberg, Creme and Space Copenhagen. Core77 9 of 52

Neri & Hu The Arta Collection designed by Neri&Hu, part of the Stellar Works booth. Their liquid vessel with a brass handle was inspired by Chinese traditional wine bottles and the cups can be stacked on the neck of the bottle. Core77 10 of 52

A Different Kind of Modular Furniture This inventive piece by Stockholm-based studio HAHA allows you to mix, match and make your own custom candle holder with its interchangeable metal components. Core77 23 of 52

One consistent trend throughout ICFF? Thin is in, and this wood-frame sofa by Scandinavian brand MENU helps demonstrate exactly what this trend is all about. Core77 24 of 52

A fun display of new products by Good Thing, including this umbrella holder that's actually two molds put together. Core77 34 of 52

Stickbulb, who also featured their work earlier this month at Collective Design, displayed some large diamond-shaped chandeliers for their ICFF installation. Core77 35 of 52

Molo's enveloping installation demonstrates the many different ways they've applied their origami-like, paper pleat signature form into lights, seating, furniture and even full-blown spaces. Core77 36 of 52

Brooklyn-based artist and designer Stefan Rurak blends concrete and wood to create his standout lighting and furniture. Rurak's pieces may look simple at first glance, but there's much more to them than meets the eye—the designer makes sure to incorporate small details into his design, adding a personal touch to his minimalist work. These giant spherical lights are actually made from hundreds of individual gold-finished circuit boards and are assembled by hand. Designer Jason Krugman expressed how labor intensive (but worth it!) they are to create. Core77 42 of 52

Reminiscent of the Steam-Punk movement, Pandemic Design Studio's Industrial Evolution Collection blends old and new with their bold lighting designs. Core77 46 of 52

droog is not a new company by any means, and neither is their Bottoms up Doorbell—but we were compelled to add this quirky design to the list anyways. Something you may not know is the wine glasses are different sizes to make sure the doorbell has two different sound offerings. Core77 48 of 52

Umbra Shift had quite a few unusual objects on display, including this tape dispenser in collaboration with MSDS. Core77 50 of 52

Modos is a tool-free modular furniture system that has endless configurations. Did we mention no tools necessary? 52 of 52

Taking up more than 165,000 square feet in the gargantuan Javits Center, ICFF is likely home to any type of design style and designer you're looking for—lavish, minimal, handmade or downright dramatic, there's a little something for everyone in the sprawling space. This year felt particularly broad, as it welcomed not only ICFF regulars, but also young newcomers and a number of promising design programs around the country. As university design programs were invited this year to attend and exhibit for free, the school projects living amongst commercial booths brought about an overall welcome mix of small and big, functional and conceptual (stay tuned for more about the student projects coming up in a later post).

For those whose feet proved too weak to check out everything or simply didn't get a chance to see things on the floor of the fair (it's okay, the fair is exhausting and the Starbucks lines were long), we've highlighted here some of our favorite commercial projects and booths to demonstrate the best of 2017.
