Zona Tortona in Milan tends toward the eccentric. The neighborhood has rapidly become known for housing projects and shows that lean toward concept and scale. This year we were impressed to see a particularly diverse selection from countries France and Japan . Two shows, France Design and Tokyo Design Week stood out as offering perspective about the current state of design in France and Japan. Toyko Design Week was an eclectic collection to say the least—covering virtual reality with 'Mind Universe' by Jins Meme to a collection of traditional Kawaii Harajuku Fashions curated by Zipper Magazine. On the other end of the spectrum France Design Week included 14 prototypes from 12 next-generation French Designers in Les Aides a la Creation Via (Via Design 2015 - VIA Creation assistance awards). The showcase focused on innovative material use and integrated new protocols for furniture and interior design.
Additional highlights included a massive showing from MOOOI who publicly launched their new line of MOOOI Carpets. The low-lit interiors of the MOOOI show lent the pieces a sexy (and somewhat sinister) ambiance against the background of a number of new pieces and photorealistic new printed carpets.
