We've seen similar concepts in the past, but we're digging Ben Vessey's "Mac OS (Old School)," a throwback GUI for Mac OS X.I'm fed up with the current trend of making icons 'shiny' and the over use of shadows and gradients, so I decided to make my own. Initially I set out to create minimalistic, flat colour icons, but then I figured it would be a really interesting project to design modern icons in the style of Mac OS '84. Once the set was complete I decided to complement them with replicas of the original OS '84 wallpapers. I'm really happy with the outcome and personally I love my Old School interface.
No word on whether the Amsterdam-based art director was inspired by this iOS UI, but it's worth completing the look. (And while we're on the topic, it's worth revisiting the backstory of the Command icon.)
