It's a far cry from the staid History Museum dioramas of frozen-faced cavemen: Wunderboxes are sleek, minimalist and monochromatic representations of random things that require your brain and memories to fill in the blanks.
"Archive Live" was a recent exhibit at London's V&A Museum that examined the nature of archives, collecting, and documentation.Gracing the Grand Entrance Hall were the Wunderboxes, conceived of by design consultancy PostlerFerguson. Designers Ian Ferguson and Martin Postler documented various images and things used for research in their projects, revealing the madness that is an industrial design firm's inspiration wall—an attack helicopter, a corporate logo, Han Solo frozen in Carbonite.
Rendered into form with a minimal amount of lines and produced in orange cardboard, the Wunderboxes cleverly trump hyper-realist depiction by using your own hippocampus to do most of the work.
