You saw their gallery of kettle explorations last week, but there's more. Students at the Shenkar College of Art and Design in Tel Aviv have sent us another set of innovative experiments, this time dealing with materials and connections.

This work comes from the IDEA course Experimental Connections, taught by Barak Asher. The class focused on "the many potential technologies and materials that can be reassembled to create new meanings" and then asked students to develop their own connections through a process of physical exploration.

Pictured above are "Pinch" by Emi Schenkelback (researching the effect of metal pins on a soft textile), "Squashed and Broken" by Yuri Movshovich (embedding a polymer joint into wood) and "Slope" by Yuval Star (a balloon exploration of blowing glass into molds).

Yuval Star - Slope:While researching methods of blowing glass into molds or shape constructions Yuval began to experiment with balloons creating these "Slope creates" that can be we created and change while playing with them. The balloon is "held" by the frames of metal but also supports the whole flex delicate construction.

Keren Levant - Embedded Crochet: Keren researched a traditional crochet fashion that was typical and use in many places in the world (Including her ancestors in Europe), the crochet has been pushed aside since those glorious years and this basis alone motivated Keren to go back and find new ways to express her nostalgic feeling to it. She began experimenting the combination of crochet with porcelain and created a whole set of Kitchen tools that bring the crochet to life.

Emi Schenkelbach - Pinch: Research of how hard matter such as metal pins effects soft textile. Result is creating textures that can be used in many ways- Fashion, products...

Olga Kravchenko - Harkavot: Harkavot in Hebrew means grafting and assembling. This is a method to connect pruned branches to one another by using their own peel.

Omer Deutsch - Natural electronics: Using old Eucalyptus shells that shed from trees, Omer began to experiment his futuristic IDEA of creating electronics embedded in organic material at first point to assist in agricultural applications like fighting insects and other plant diseases, and later as communications and building application. Omer used the physical structure of the liquid veins in the tree structure to implicate his strong vision and laid out a whole electronic integrated chip system describing a low tech punk futuristic reality (Apparently not so far in the future...)

Yuri Movshovich- Squashed & Broken: Connecting organic wood with plastic (polymer) materials, Manipulating the shape and flexibility of the connection while in production by using flex molds. This brings birth to many connection shapes.
