I live in a rather dusty environment, and I tend to get worried when cleaning the fine layer of dust that accumulates on the power strips every month; I'm no Fire Marshal, but something tells me dust and electricity are not a good mix.
I just caught wind of Belkin's Conceal Surge Protector, which I'm tempted to run out and buy, despite the hefty $50 price tag. It seems to close up nicely and looks a damn sight better than the viper's nest under my desk. Now if only they'd lower the price....

I give it an A+. Now if only Belkin would add a battery-backup unit in in the same style.
First it's beige, the pictures look like it's a neutral but it markedly beige. Second that viper nest isn't going anywhere. There is little to no room in it to put slack cables (if you look at their promotional photos yo use they just run them out).
If you do try to jam them in the detents on the door are so weak that it's constantly popping open. And the pin hinges that attach the door are pretty frail so if you do cram a bunch of cables in there you stand a good chance of breaking them. I know this from experience.
So all in all the surge protector is a good idea with poor execution.
