  His website (before he took it down) said that he discovered someone had already come up with the 'black cube' idea. Maybe he was just tired of doing this project, seeings how he hadn't even made all 999 black cubes.

  I ordered a cube in the fall of 2007.. it took far longer than the shipping time to receive the cube. I sent him an email and he responded weeks later when he had finished making and shipping the cube. All 999 are not actually built yet, i'm not sure if he waits to build them as they are ordered or if he has random ones built..
  He seems to be on a strange hiatus... his website has not been updated since october 2007..
  order at risk i guess.

  Beware, ordered a cube in april of 2008 and over 6 months later have not received the cube. The artist does not respond to emails. SAve your money....
