Silo's Mesh Card Re-thinks the Wallet

I've solved the wallet thing for myself, I've got the perfect wallet for me. So whenever someone comes out with a new ultraslim wallet, I'm unmoved. But I just gave the Silo Mesh Card wallet a gander and am impressed at the thinking that went into it:

It was designed by Sydney-based Silo, "a small collective of designers and design enthusiasts," who successfully Kickstarted the Mesh last year and subsequently won two Sydney Design Awards with it (In the "Best Startup" and "Product Design - Personal Use" categories.)

I love how minimal they've gotten the thing. In terms of form follows function, an elastic material is the perfect choice for an object that will shrink and grow in depth. I also dig the utility they've added with the opener and stand.

That being said, I still wouldn't switch, just out of personal preference. In order to use the bottle opener and stand I'd have to take the cards out, and knowing me, I would eventually lose something that way. However, I'll have to continue to open beers by slamming the caps off on my friends' counters when they're not looking, and I've got no RFID blocker. Pick your poison I guess.

dont want to be negative butâ€¦no space for coins, thats a big down side for everyone who lives in Europe. Canvas and a zip, a wallet, still wins for now

Ken....Save the snark for Dezeen. Do you know how hard it is to find a bottle opener in a Mexican restaurant? Besides, it's clearly missing a whittling knife.

I like the minimalist angle of this wallet but feature creep might be destroying that intention. But then again it might be hard to sell a titanium bar and a rubber band for $89AUD

A rubber band. And a combo beer bottle opener and unstable iPhone stand, for everyone who opens many beer bottles a day and still manages to have the world's lightest touch on their phone screen. I think this might be revealing more about the lifestyles and drinking skills of Australian hipsters than about design.

It still doesn't solve the problem of what to do with loose change - to me that's half the job of a wallet!

but just think of all the fun you'd have if you had this minimalist wallet replacement! these guys hung out together, drank beers, went to an exciting place to eat, and watched videos on their phones everywhere
