Plain is Best: ROLU's series of OSB and Plywood Chairs

ROLU, rosenlof/lucas, ro/lu, the cryptic but compelling landscape and furniture design firm of many websites, debuted a series of plain, very plain, OSB and plywood chairs at Art in General in NYC last night, inspired by the ideas of Enzo Mari, Donald Judd, Gerrit Reitveld, Scott Burton, and Rudolf Schindler. According to ROLU founders Matt Olson, Mike Brady, and Joe Mollen, the collection was heavily influenced by the notion of "found design," with a google-translated text from Japanese Magazines Casa Brutus and Waterfall Magazine providing some guidance on the issue:

Creating an ideal space. More freedom! And full of character evolution. Treasure from the basics too late to listen to people. Always present is a moral geometry. Like a record heat wave that comes barely softened. Let's start preparing for the fall of art!

In support of the idea that the designs are "found," the designers have supplied each piece with a special piece of found text, to plant a seed of its false history into your imagination. We've picked a few of our favorite pieces from the collection and included the accompanying texts with each image below.

+ Chair Ply Found Text: The power to stimulate the creative treasures. And so the ROLU pilgrimage guide!

+ Chair OSB Found Text: I was told the room of a person's appearance on behalf of his heart, so heart is messy. Chairs simple.

+ Slanted Found text: The creator of concern is the subtle changes of the everyday objects. And is not shy about the use of the existing environments.

Box Chair Square Found text: The new shop floor is wood flooring, this is his only insist: that he likes to step barefoot on the floor, that wood's texture is the source of a sense of security!

Triangle Chair Found text: Now he tried to imagine the day he began to lose his memory, little by little. It could be the result of he escaped from it for too long. All the past was buried under the heavy dust.

Cube (+ Subtraction) Found text: The subject without deliberating lightening and composition. The unique beauty is revealed in this poetic gaze.

X Chair Found Text: Childhood that many books on the shelves, so do not feel grown up. Dream, when all like the old photos.
