De facto industrial designers Alex Witko and Courtney Hunt run Organelle Design, the Vancouver-based firm behind the Hangeliers, a series of chandeliers made from discarded coat hangers, in both plastic and wooden varieties, held together with zip ties. An article in Straight.com illuminates their process, revealing something many designers may have already found out the hard way:
"...You'd be foolish to think that you could just pick up a couple of things from alley A, B, and C and somehow mash them together and come up with something beautiful," says Witko. "And in fact, a lot of the time in our work is spent trying to find out what that interface is between different materials."
